President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) Shahid Naseem Khokhar has hailed the Prime Minister Gilani's directives for equitable distribution of gas, across the country and strict implementation of the ECC decisions. He demanded for implementation of the ECC directives because SNGPL has suspended gas supply to industry for four to five days.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday Khokhar said that industrial sector was facing the troubles due to injudicious supply of natural gas across the board. The president MCCI also appreciated the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif towards voicing and projecting the gas supply situation in Punjab and appreciated his political sagacity and wisdom in handling national issues through consensus.
He also appreciated for raising this issue and voicing against three to four days suspension of gas which caused closure of industries and rendered thousands of workers jobless. The president MCCI said that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources should expedite the implementation of the decision of ECC for import of Liquified Natural Gas with the help of ministries concerned.
He said that effective policies be adopted to ensure use of certified appliances having efficiency of 50 percent instead of the current average of 22 percent to help gas conservation. He stressed the need for launching public awareness campaign to adopt conservation measures by the consumers. Khokhar said that it was good news that additional gas supply was expected from some of the gas fields during January as well as after closure of fertiliser plants for maintenance, which would help supplement gas supplies among all the stakeholders.
