At least four students including activists of Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) were injured in a low intensity blast occurred in Karachi University on Tuesday. The blast occurred outside the Central Cafeteria near the stall of ISO. As a result four students were injured while windowpanes of the cafeteria were broken.
After the blast, heavy contingents of police and the rangers rushed to scene and cordoned off the area. The injured students, who were identified as Wajid, Department of Statistics, Irfan, Department of Mathematics, Israr, Department of Criminology and Mir Hussain, were taken to Patel Hospital. Two of the injured Wajid and Irfan were hospitalised while the other discharged after initial treatment.
An eye witness, Maaz Ahmed, student of BS, told Business Recorder that he was standing near the cafeteria, when the explosive went off with a bang. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East Commander Shaukat said it was a low intensity blast and investigations into it was underway.
He said that the investigation report would be shared with media within 24 hours. Meanwhile, the University administration has postponed the examinations scheduled for Tuesday. The administration has also postponed the papers scheduled for Wednesday, December 29, 2010. The new dates would be announced soon. However, the University will remain open on Wednesday.
