CDGK fails to complete uplift projects on time

City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has failed to complete its development projects within the stipulated time, although Administrator Karachi, Fazl-ur-Rehamn, has recently claimed that CDGK completed all its projects within specified time. In a statement on December 23, 2010, the Administrator said that the city government had completed all development projects within the stipulated time and the ongoing projects would also be completed within time.
However, Business Recorder learnt that various uplift projects have not yet been completed despite the lapse of timeframe stipulated for completion of the projects, which included Banaras Flyover, Jail Chowrangi Flyover and the road leading from Abdullah College to Anda More (North Nazimabad).
On November 08, 2010, Fazlur Rehman had said that a track of under construction Banaras Flyover would be completed within a week and the construction of roads around the bridge would start from November 09, 2010. Despite the passage of 48 days after the announcement, the flyover has not yet been opened for one way traffic, while CDGK has not yet started construction of the roads.
The said flyover connects the city areas with Orangi Town and some parts of Baldia Town. Worst king of traffic congestion on the road leading from Banaras to Orangi has become a routine affair, causing immense problems to the commuters and motorists. The flyover project was initiated on December 14, 2007 with the estimated cost of Rs 550 million with the aim to resolve the traffic congestion issue.
The residents of the area are also facing severe problems due to the delay in competition of the project. Though the Jail Chowrangi Flyover has been opened for traffic, but it is still incomplete, as one of its lope leading towards Central Jail is yet to be constructed. While various projects including flyovers at Malir Halt, Malir No 15, Jinnah Terminal, and PIDC have been abandoned just after laying their foundation stones.
