Published Updated

A team of FIA Lahore raided the business office of Chaudhry Moonis Elahi, son of former Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and sitting MPA, and confiscated record in connection with the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scandal besides arresting his manager Abdul Malick as part of the investigations. The deputy director FIA Crime Circle Javed Shah led the FIA team, raiding the Garden Town office of Chaudhry Moonis Elahi.
Sources said a bank official also accompanied the FIA team to scrutinise the record. Chaudhry Moonis Elahi, however, was not present in the office during the raid. It may be noted that one Mohsin Warriach, who is at large in the case of NICL, is stated to be one of close friends of Chaudhry Moonis Elahi.
When contacted, FIA officials said the probe was underway and facts will be disclosed to media after probe is completed. Moonis Elahi in his reaction said that raid on his private office is result of political confrontation with the government. "This raid has proven the PPP-PML-N connivance against the PML-Q," he said, adding. "His party would confront the political tactics forcefully."
It may be recalled that the wife and daughters of Major Habibullah Warriach (Retd), one of the accused in the NICL case, had agreed to return Rs 100 million to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) authorities. The wife and two daughters of Habibullah are also beneficiaries in the land purchase scam in which Mohsin and Privilege Farms (pvt) Ltd, Company received Rs 2.75 billion from the National Insurance Company Limited on account of two land sale agreements.
