Democrats panel sweeps KPC elections

The Democrats panel swept annual elections of Karachi Press Club (KPC) for the year 2011, as all candidates of the panel returned successful on the seats of office-bearers and members Governing Body. Tahir Hassan Khan of Democrats was elected President. He secured 493 votes against his closest rival Khalid Farshori of The Panel (Green), who bagged 275 votes, while Moosa Kaleem of Democrats elected as General Secretary by securing 521 votes. Fahim Siddiqui of The Panel (Green) secured 347 votes.
The Democrats' candidates Fazil Jamili, Arif Khan and Anwar Khan were elected Vice President, Joint Secretary and Treasurer, respectively. On the seven seats of members Governing Body, Democrats' candidates Shams Kerio (560 votes), Asif Jeaja (557), Shakeel Salawat (508), Nauman Rafiq (507), Ghazala Fasih (487), Syed Shehzad Ali Shah (439) and Hamid Nazeer (419) were declared successful.
Three panels, The Democrats, The Panel (Green) and The Panel (Pink) were in the fray. Polling was held smoothly from 9.00am to 5:00pm without any break. According to chairman Election Committee, Professor Dr Tauseef Ahmed Khan, out of total 1,175 eligible voters, over 900 cast their vote.
