ART FACTS: Colours and emotions

Many things in life inspires an artist who than expresses his/her feelings in the form of an artwork. While visiting Kunj art gallery, Karachi I feel the energy of life and see diverse ideas of ten different artists exhibiting their artworks in a group show at the gallery. Going through the artists work one discovers a different world other than ours, giving an entirely unique sense of environment we are living in.
The artists include Shafique Ahmed Rana, Mehtab Ali, Ajab Khan, Anila Zulfiqar, Shan Naqvi, Asma Hussain, Syed Mumtaz Hashmi, Zebun Zuby, Abu Baker Rohani and Iqbal Ahmed Khokar.
Anila Zulfiqar's paintings were very colourful she users rich texture, which gives a deep impression to her work. The cityscapes and landscapes both reflect a world within her.
Shan Naqvi's abstract works were the result of an inspiration taken from the rich cultural heritage across Pakistan. He combines various shapes and lines with bold hues to express his concerns about the present condition of our heritage buildings and paying tribute to the monuments of glory.
Zebun Zuby is another artist who loves to express through rich colours and lines. She expresses herself in a harmonious way thus transferring her feelings and moods on the canvas creating a work soothing to eyes.
Asma Hussain miniature paintings on wasli are really a treat. Her thoughtful and minutely observed work depicts her dreams and moods. Her paintings has a wide world of miniature showing a life once lived in a bygone era.
Syed Mumtaz Ali Hashmi's cityscapes are full of hustle and bustle of city life. He uses soft colours close to reality attract viewers. His paintings has wide scope covering every nook and crony of the place portrayed.
Mehtab Ali's figurative paintings has world of their own. He portrays Eastern beauty in different moods, desires and dreams experience by our women. His damsels offer a peep into the lives of suppressed gender but still much attractive and beautiful.
Shafique Ahmed Rana fascinated by Mughal culture and inspired by Askari Mian Irani started his career as an artist. He portray Mughal culture and life in such a way that viewer really feel visiting that era in a painting thus admiring his artworks.
Abu Baker Rohani paintings depict ordinary common people in a natural atmosphere. Portraying how they live their day to day lives he comments on our social behaviours. He wants to convey a message of love generosity, peace and resilience, which our people have.
Ajab Khan's paintings portray everyday life of his hometown, Dera Ismail Khan. His portraits as well as landscapes are full of life and inspiring.
Iqbal Ahmed Khokhar landscapes are in bold colours depicting rural life of Punjab, the people and their mode of living, thus representing rich cultural themes. nadeemzuberi71@gmail.com
