Corruption needs to be curbed for socio-economic uplift: NAB chief

The Chairman NAB, former Justice Syed Deedar Hussain Shah has reiterated that corruption needs to be checked for the overall social and economic development of the country and urged to increase efforts for bringing transparency, fairness and enforcement of rules, law in the realm of Government Departments.
He made these remarks while chairing the Executive Board Meeting of NAB here on Wednesday, which authorised filing of references, approved plea bargains/voluntary returns, complaint verifications and authorisation of inquiries against various individuals and organisations.
The prominent cases discussed during the meeting including the acquisition of 3,000 kanals of land near Bhara Kahu, Islamabad for Federal government housing scheme by the M/o Housing & Works at exorbitant prices. The NAB would inquire the complaint against the officers responsible for wasting the public funds.
The cases against former MD Pasban Cooperative Finance corporation for wilful loan default, Syed Anwar-ul-Haq of Anwar Housing Scheme for full payment to allottees against the post in the said scheme, Ayyaz-ud-Din Durrani of Dascon, Panno Aqil Cantt, and the case of former DHO, D.I. Khan for Rs 1.2 million loss to the state exchequer were accepted for plea bargains and voluntary returns by the Board. The board approved the filing of references against Aurangzeb Khan of PTCL for accumulation of assets beyond means and remaining family members of Shahid Hassan Awan who were actively involved in the scam.
The meeting also authorised the holding of inquiries against Shams-uz-Zaman for money laundering, former President ZTBL Mansur Khan far mismanagement of funds, Capital One Equities and Cliktrade Limited of Karachi Stock Exchange for misappropriating public money and Chief Executive of Akro Protection Services (Pvt) limited Islamabad. Complaint verifications against Dr Naeem Aziz Qureshi of FBR, and Ali Ahnied Bugti of customs department were also allowed. The Board formed a committee to review and re-check the facts of inquiry report against former administrator Jammu and Kashmir state property in Pakistan. The meeting also closed few inquiries on the lack of substantial evidence.-PR
