The rupee was firm against dollar and euro on the currency market on Tuesday, dealers said. The rupee inched up with a gain of two paisa against the US currency for buying at 85.72 and three paisa for selling at 85.75, they said.
The euro rose 0.3 percent on the day to $1.3172, extending its rebound from Monday's trough of $1.3094, its lowest level since December. 2. Malaysian ringgit was available at 3.1345 in relation to the greenback and Chinese yuan was trading at 6.660 versus dollar. The Indian rupee rose as euro bounced back from 2-1/2 week lows, with gains in other Asian currencies as well as domestic shares supporting the local unit. Indian rupee was at Rs 45.25 versus the greenback.

According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its overnight closing level of Rs 85.65 and Rs 85.80 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. However, dollar could not sustain and declined to Rs 85.55 on buying counter while it stayed unchanged at Rs 85.80 on selling counter.
Similarly, the rupee recovered its earlier loss and improved its worth against the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates were decreased to Rs 133.20 and Rs 134.10 as compared to last day closing of Rs 134.00 and Rs 135.00, respectively, the moneychangers added.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 85.50 (buying) and Rs 85.80 (selling) against the rate of Rs 86.20 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.50 (buying) and Rs 85.80 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 136.20 (buying) and Rs 136.60 (selling) in the morning session. It did not observe further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 136.20 (buying) and Rs 136.60 (selling).
