Key posts: acting governor can make appointments on advice of CM: LHC
A full bench of the Lahore High Court dismissing a petition challenging appointments of chairman and Ombudsman Punjab Services Tribunal made by Punjab Assembly speaker as acting governor held that acting governor can make appointments on key posts on the advice of the chief minister.
The bench headed by LHC Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry also observed that the acting governor of the province enjoys complete authority of the governor and make appointment on any post on the advice of the chief minister. Aurangzaib Burki of PPP filed the petition through Advocate Fawad Chaudhry contending that the speaker assembly Rana Iqbal violated his mandate during his brief stint as acting governor and made illegal and unauthorised appointments.
He insisted that the PML-N let Punjab government intentionally violated the constitution and managed appointments of its favourites through acting governor. He prayed the court that the whole process of the appointments of the chairman of the service tribunal and that of the ombudsman be declared as unconstitutional and illegal.
