Taiwan's main TAIEX share index closed 59.07 points higher at 8,827.79 on Tuesday. Textile stocks led the way, up 2 percent, with Far Eastern New Century rising 3.3 percent after announcing a China joint venture. Food, opto-electronics and transport shares were the other top gainers. Tourism shares ended down 0.14 percent.
They had risen sharply after a report on Monday that Taiwan planned to allow more mainland tourists in, but fell back after the government confirmed the news. The heavyweight financial sector gained 0.79 percent, while the broad electronics sub-index was up 0.65 percent.
