Chairing a meeting at the Governor House here on Saturday, he said that rehabilitation of the circular railways and coordinating the bus rapid transit (BRT) would help provide meaningful transport facilities to the people. He also called for speeding up the process as already a lot of time has passed. At the meeting Japanese organization JICA apprised Dr. Ishrat of the details of the proposed BRT project. The Governor emphasised the need for speeding up the mass transit system. He was of the view that the prevailing transport system should be modernized. Dr. Ishrat pointed out that four corridors have been prepared for the purpose. He said that any of the two corridors can be selected as model in future for plying buses on experimental basis. The Governor was of the opinion that this will provide useful guidance for this system in future. He pointed out that in the big cities of the world the BRT system is being successfully run. In fact, it's safe and costs less. Dr. Ishrat was informed that the government of Japan through JICA was providing assistance for the rehabilitation of circular railway.
