In a suit, Shahid submitted that ASIs of New Town police station Abdul Majeed and Muhammad Basheer and constables Nasseem Shah and Arshad Ali picked him up and shifted him to unknown place in September 2015 from Saddar area of Karachi.

He said that after 37 days of his arrest, the police had produced him before a sessions court which released him as he maintained that the case against him was lodged on personal enmity.

Citing the provincial police chief, home secretary, SHO of New Town police station and above mentioned ASIs and Constables as the defendants, the former Navy officer requested the court to direct the police to pay him Rs. 70million for defaming his name by keeping him in illegal detention.

After the preliminary hearing, the SHC single bench issued notices to all the defendants directing them to submit their respective replies by December 22.
