Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma has been making everybody laugh through his witty and humorous jokes for years but it came as a shock when the actor recently opened up about the actual truth behind this laughter and his battle with depression, anxiety and alcoholism.

At the trailer launch of Kapil’s upcoming movie ‘Firangi’ yesterday, the actor spoke about how he has dealt with depression and anxiety following his fall out with co-actor Sunil Grover. From being one of the most successful television hosts to losing almost everything, Kapil opened up about how his fight with Sunil Grover affected him. The actor also admitted to have plunged himself into drinking just to overcome his despair.

Seeing the demise of his show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, the actor even confessed to being on the brink of committing suicide. In a report in Mid-day, he stated, “One of my close friends asked me to shift to his seaside apartment. He thought a change of scene would be good for me. As I saw the wide expanse of sea from his balcony, I felt like jumping into it. I was depressed; it felt like the world was gunning for me.”

Kapil also stated that panic attacks had left him vulnerable but he could not talk about his problems before the world. He said, “I could not step on the stage to perform and would cancel the shoot. I suffered from anxiety and drank myself silly.” The actor cancelled his shows to some prominent celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Anushka Sharma when they arrived at his show to promote their movies.

Speaking about Sunil Grover, Kapil said, “If only Sunil had asked me why I was behaving like this. We were doing the show for five years. He could have confronted me, ‘What’s wrong? I have not seen this side of you.’ I still love him. The people you love the most, end up hurting you or you end up upsetting them.”
