The sub-committee would be comprised of its members including Khawaja Sohail Mansoor, Muhammad Pervaiz Malik, Shugufta Jumani, Lt. Gen. (retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch and Nawab Ali Wassan.
The Committee met here on Thursday under the Chairmanship of Malik Bilal Rehman, MNA, to discus the Privatization of new entitles and reports of the action taken on the recommendations of the Standing Committee in its last meeting.
The Federal Minister Ghous Bux Mahr and Secretary, Ministry of Privatization, Shahid Hussain Raja briefed the Committee about the new entities to be privatized by the Privatization Commission.
The Secretary informed that it was decided that OGDCL and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) would be privatized in the month of December, however, due to some reasons now it will be executed in January-February, 2012.
He also informed that CCI has already approved, on 28th April, 2011 of the privatization of three GENCOs and nine DISCOs.
The Standing Committee has advised the Ministry of Privatization to be more careful before the privatization of said GENCOs and DISCOs. Because the Committee was of the opinion that government has facing acute problems after the privatization of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).
The Committee was briefed by the Secretary, Ministry of Privatization about the privatization of Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC). He said the privatization of PMDC was postponed due to non-availability of fresh approval from the council of Common Interest, now privatization Board has decided to reinitiate the privatization of PMDC and the approval of said privatization will be taken from the provincial governments. He added CCI has already approved the privatization of PMDC in May, 1997 and August 2006, however, fresh approval is required in this regard.
The Committee was informed by the Federal Minister for Privatization about the release of Rs 276 million and Rs 261 million by the Ministry of Privatization for flood relief activities during current fiscal year and he admitted that Rs 261 million were spent on advertisement campaign of flood relief activities. The Committee decided to discuss the said matter later.
The Standing Committee has once again recommended to hold a larger meeting to discuss the confusing policy of OGDCL privatization, the Committee also decided that Secretary Ministry of Finance, Secretary Ministry of Law & Justice and Secretary Cabinet Division will be called in the next meeting of the Standing Committee.
The meeting was attended by Capt. (Retd) Rai Ghulam Mujtaba Khural, Mr. Nawab Ali Wassan, Mrs. Nisar Tanveer, Mrs. Mamoona Hashmi, Mr. Omer Sohail Zia Butt, Khawaja Sohail Mansoor, Mr. Muhammad Pervaz Malik, Lt. General (Retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Mr. Manwer Lal, and Ms. Shagufta Jumani, MNAs and Minister for Privatization, besides the Officers from Ministry of Privatization.
