The University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore and Liverpool University, United Kingdom, have agreed to collaborate in scientific research and to initiate new academic programmes which would result in dual award of degrees by both the institutions.
Vice-chancellor UHS, Professor M. H. Mubbashar and Vice Chancellor Liverpool University, Professor Howard Newby will sign a five-year formal agreement next week at Liverpool University. Under the agreement, both the universities will cooperate with each other in the development of joint modules and methodologies for medical teaching, potentially leading to the establishment of a programme receiving dual award by both the institutions. Both the universities will also collaborate in designing curriculum.
It will also envisage visits by the academic staff for research, joint PhD programmes and visits by undergraduate and postgraduate students for the purpose of research. Importantly, both the institutions will publish joint research outputs and will be free to use any scientific and technical information created in the course of those collaboration activities.
The UHS has appointed Professor Arif Rashid and Liverpool University has designated Professor Atif Rahman as managers of the agreement. Speaking to the faculty members and students of the university, before leaving to the UK, UHS vice-chancellor Professor Mubbashar said, "Collaboration between the universities would continue to play central role in helping us deliver on our shared vision for the future of medical education."
"The UHS is constantly deepening its partnership with international academia, and is committed to develop new ideas and solving many of the key challenges in the field medicine", he added. Research was increasingly directed to solving highly complex problems and required many skills. "Collaboration between the two universities would help sharing knowledge and would also ensure that a full range of techniques can be utilised to increase the chances of successful research outcomes", he maintained.
