Solid steps underlined to explore indigenous energy resources

The two-day annual technical conference titled "Energy Security through Indigenous resources," concluded here was jointly held by the Society of Petroleum Engineer (SPE) and Pakistan Association of Petroleum Geoscientists (PAPG).

The speakers said the country was rich in hydrocarbon resources and their was a need to utilize latest technologies to explore these resources for achieving national prosperity.

Different panel discussions were held in the conference, drawing recommendations to foght the challenges faced by the country to meet energy demand and supply.

The participants said new techniques were needed to be used to tap the country's rich resources.

They said extensive training workshops be arranged, enabling workforce of the oil and gas sector in a more efficient way to take benefit from the latest technology.

They said everybody was a contributor to mitigate the energy crisis but above all the experts could play an effective role to eradicate energy crisis.

They were of the view the suggestions and recommendations and input of the experts be incorporated in oil and gas policies to make the country self-sufficient in energy.

They said the policies and strategies of the oil and gas sector were needed to be more vibrant and receptive to modern challenges, offering more incentives and facilities to encourage companies for investment.

They said the shale gas revolution in North America was a great example of how technology has been applied to unlock a difficult resource and drive down costs.

"Over the next few years, we will hear much more about the role of technology, and how innovations in exploiting unconventional reserves can unlock resources earlier considered as stranded and impossible," they added.

They hoped the conference would go a long way in providing suggestions and recommendations to resolve issues.

The organizers expressed gratitude to all the representatives of Exploration and Production companies and service providers for the support in organizing this conference.

In the conference, more than 100 delegates from the 16 universities were invited with and student paper contest have also been arranged. SPE and PAPG have student chapter in all universities of Pakistan and the objective is to create healthy activities in the institutions.
