PPP nominates Naek for Senate Chairman slot: Rabbani resigns as Leader of House
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) nominated Federal Law Minister Senator Farooq Naek as the party candidate for the office of Chairman Senate. A statement issued here by Presidents Spokesman Farhatullah Babar said that the decision was taken at a meeting of PPP senators in the Presidency on Sunday night with President and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in the chair.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani also attended the meeting. Election to the offices of Chairman and Deputy Chairman is scheduled to be held on March 12. Monitoring desk adds: Senator Raza Rabbani has tendered his resignation as Leader of the House in Senate, a private TV channel reported on late Sunday night.
Quoting the sources the channel claimed that Raza Rabbani tendered his resignation after nomination of Senator Farooq H Naek as Chairman Senate. However, the channel said that the President has not yet accepted the resignation of Senator Raza Rabbani.
