According to media reports, it started when Varun Dhawan came to the stage to take his award for the best performance in a comic role for ‘Dishoom’. Saif Ali Khan, who was hosting the show along with Karan Johar, brought up the nepotism issue by telling Varun Dhawan that he had made it big in the industry because of his father David Dhawan, a famous director.

To which Varun replied, “You are here because of your mummy (referring to Sharmila Tagore).” Soon, Johar joined them and said he was in the industry because of his father, filmmaker Yash Johar.

The trio then shouted, “Nepotism rocks”.

Saif and Varun then sang Bole chudiyaan Bole kangana from Johar’s film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, but the director quickly reacted, saying, “Its better if Kangana doesn’t speak”.

Earlier, Ranbir Kapoor took a dig at Kangana by talking about her controversy with Hrithik Roshan. During their visit to a popular radio channel, Ranbir and Katrina played a game called 'Guess Who'. Both the actors were given placards with pictures of the Bollywood actors and had to enact any of their popular gestures by keeping mum. When Katrina was holding Kangana's picture, Ranbir did the hook step of Hrithik's ‘Ek Pal Ka Jeena’ and then showed the action of slitting his throat. Katrina immediately recognized and said Kangana's name.
