Pak envoy holds meeting with OIC Secretary General

The Ambassador said that the Muslim world was passing through testing times and the OIC has a greater role to play in this regard, said a press release issued here on Saturday.

He said that Pakistan would support OIC efforts for uniting Muslim Ummah and providing beneficial cooperation amongst the Muslim states.

He said that the OIC has played an important role in creating awareness and unity amongst the Muslim Ummah. He said there is a long list of success stories of the OIC.

In this context he specifically mentioned the resolutions adopted by the Human Rights Council and the 3rd Committee of the UN General Assembly on combating religious intolerance. He also appreciated the OIC role in the recent floods in Pakistan.

The Ambassador said that the OIC should have a strong media platform to project the true image of Islam and counter propaganda against Muslim states. The Ambassador lauded the OIC support for Pakistan on international forums, particularly the Kashmir cause.

He also appreciated the visit of the Special Representative of the OIC SG to Kashmir in May this year.

The OIC SG Ekmeluddin Ehsan Oglo, while welcoming Pakistan's Ambassador said that Pakistan was a founding member of the OIC and its consistent support for the cause of unity of Ummah was laudable.

He said that late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was a great supporter of Muslim unity and his contributions for the OIC were unprecedented. He said that the OIC was successfully projecting the true image of Islam in the West and was countering the propaganda in this regard.

He underlined the need for greater unity amongst the OIC member states to achieve the OIC objectives. Pakistan Consul General, Abdul Salik Khan was also present during the meeting.
