The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 3.63 points (0.03 percent) to 12,150.05 about 10 minutes into trading. The broad-based S&P 500 dropped 3.91 points (0.31 percent) to 1,259.94, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite shed 5.96 (0.22 percent) to 2,672.79.
