The meeting was held under the chairmanship of head of sub-committee Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi. The two member committee comprised of Senators Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi and Abdul Khaliq Pirzada. Giving the briefing, Director Technical Railways from Lahore Abdul Saeed Khan informed that they got vacated 13 acres of agriculture land, 4.5 commercial and 4.27 acres residential land so far. He said the operation was conducted to vacate the land in coordination with the task force. In the committee meeting held last month, it was informed that 98.32 acres land of Pakistan Railways in Lahore was illegally occupied by individuals. The sub committee was informed that one acre land was encroached by individuals for commercial use while 97 acres was being used for residential purpose. About illegal occupation by individuals, the committee was earlier informed that a person got a railways land on lease for Rs 800,000 to set up a Bachat Bazar, but he constructed 350 cemented shops and sold them to different people for Rs 300 million. The committee members observed that encroachment on railway land was on the rise and directed the Railways authorities to submit a detailed report in this regard within a month. Secretary Senate Standing Committee on Railways Ghulam Murtaza was also present on the occasion.
