Minister for Women Development and Youth Affairs, Ms Sumaira Malik on Monday said that President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz are committed to the cause of women and present government has provided opportunities to momenfolk for their socio-political and economic empowerment.
Addressing the participants of one day conference on "female empowerment-NBM commitment" here this morning. Sumaira appreciating pro-women policies of the government said that owing to these policies women of Pakistan one day will become economically independent.
She said the government is doing a lot for the socio-political and economic empowerment of women. The Minister for Women Development said that Pakistan is number one country in the world where "women have voice in the Parliament" adding that women have larger representations in the provincial assemblies and local bodies system.
Sumaira Malik said the government wants to provide opportunities to women in all facets of life for the socio-economic empowerment. She lauded the efforts of NBP for the development of its women employees. She said it is important and vital for achieving the goal of gender equality in all economic and development initiatives.
She expressed the hope that these initiatives of the government would go a long way in emancipation of women in all spheres of life. Speaking on the occasion President National Bank of Pakistan Ali Raza highlighted the achievements of the bank and said that performance of women branch managers are excellent as compared to their male counterparts.
He added that NBP has transformed itself as one of the best financial institution of the country earning a profit of Rs 25 billion. The Bank President thanked Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Finance Ministry for extending their support and cooperation and to the bank for its development.
He also highlighted the role of the bank for promotion of sports in the country and its sponsorships to national and international games of the country besides the contribution of the bank in social sector, health and education sectors.
