Political parties should demonstrate maturity: Dr Firdous

SIALKOT: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has underlined need of forging complete unity among the ranks for safeguarding of geo-political fronts of the country.

Addressing a gathering after Quran Khawani held for Madar-e-Jamhooriat Begum Nusrat Bhutto held at Pakistan Television Bureau Sialkot on Sunday afternoon she said that at this critical juncture political parties should demonstrate political maturity and work collectively for the betterment of the country and protection of democracy.

Attempts to derail democracy would be detrimental for political stability and would weaken Pakistan, she said. The minister said, "we are ready to take on board opposition for serving masses in a better way and work together for making Pakistan a strong country of the globe". Pakistan People's Party (PPP) believes in democratic norms and wanted to resolve all issues democratically and this flexibility should not be considering weakness of the party, she said. The Information Minister said that President Asif Ali Zardari is a symbol of federation and PPP had strong roots among the masses of all provinces and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Firdous said that PPP had rendered great scarifies for the cause of democracy and will continue its strenuous efforts to strengthen the country democratically for fulfilling the agenda of Shaheed Z.A Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. All conspiracies and attempts to derail the democratic process would be foiled with the active support of the masses, she said. Dr Firdous said that opposition could serve the people in a better way while sitting in opposition adding that democracy doesn't mean to run government and presence of opposition in democratic system played an instrumental role in tacking the government right direction.

She alleged that Punjab Chief Minister misused the government machinery and public funds for staging a "Comedy Show" in Lahore adding that Punjab Chief Minister should apologised from nation for negating the constitution and law.
