The provincial government has announced the current financial year 2011-12, as the Year of Development for Sindh province. This he observed while presiding over a meeting of Sindh Planning and Development Department at the CM House here on Saturday, said a statement issued here. Sindh CM, who is also the Incharge Minister of P and D Department, said that the first quarter of financial year was devoted to the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of rain affected people, as more than eight million people had been badly affected and shifted to relief camps. He said that it is the responsibility of P and D Department to make plans, prepare Annual Development Programme, and ensure that ADP is being properly utilised. Syed Qaim Ali Shah directed that P&D Department should follow the schemes initiated and approved, and also ensure to monitor the progress and utilisation of funds, whether the amount in spent properly or not. The CM Sindh directed that development works be initiated and completed fast as the people have large expectations from the present government, while the Government fully intends to provide relief to the people of Sindh. Additional Chief Secretary (P&D) Israr Malik gave a detailed briefing about the ADP of year 2011-12, the details of allocations, amount released, and the consumption of funds and physical progress of those schemes. He informed that the ADP of Sindh province for the year 2011-12 is Rs 131 billion, which includes Rs 20 billion for District Government's allocation. He said that the Education Department has been allocated Rs 7733 million and Rs 758.234 million were released in first quarter out of which Rs 286.68 was spent. The Health Department was allocated Rs 6930.000 million and Rs 888.448 million were released, out of which Rs 357.933 million have been spent. According to grand total, Rs 111 billion were allocated for first quarter in the provincial heads and an amount of Rs 15.081 billion were released during first quarter out of which Rs 4.157 billion were spent which is 27.6 per cent of total releases. He further informed that allocations, releases and expenditure for special development packages in ADP-2011-2012 include allocation of Rs 1 billion for Hyderabad, Rs 2 billion for Shaheed Benazirabad, Rs 2 billion for Larkana package, Rs 800 million for Lyari package, Rs 500 million for Malir package, Rs 800 million for Keamari, Rs 100 million for Karachi's under development areas and Rs 100 million for Karachi East. He further informed that out of 724 schemes of roads in the province, the work on 142-schemes is in hand. The CM Sindh directed that the P&D Department should submit quarterly progress reported to him, which should also be communicated to all concerned departments. He also directed to submit the progress report pertaining to development schemes belonging to last financial year for all working departments. Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that all schemes of more than Rs 100 million be communicated to him as the government should update its commitments to the people. The meeting was largely attended by sectional heads of P&D Department and Principal Secretary to the CM, Alamddin Bullo.
