In a release issued by the media liaison unit of Punjab Agriculture Department, a spokesman said that the PSC was making efforts on self-help basis to provide good quality and high yielding varieties of wheat, cotton, paddy, maize and vegetables seeds to farmers at low price.
Through application of tissue culture technology, the PSC prepared 5,000 100-kg bags of good quality and disease-free potato seed and sold them to farmers for Rs 4.7 million in 2015-16 that enabled farmers get record potato production last year.
This year, the PSC produced 1,250 bags of potato seed and sold them out to farmers for Rs 2.8 million.
The PSC also played a role in free distribution of 100,000 bags of wheat seed among selected farmers of 23,840 villages in Punjab under Agriculture Department's Rs 300 million scheme.
