Socio-political circles have appealed to the high-ups of railway authorities that a survey should be conducted for laying railway track between Sialkot-Daska for minimising the distance between Sialkot-Lahore.
In a press statement issued here on Saturday, they said that huge amount was being spent on the upgradation of railway tracks in various parts of the country, but Sialkot was being totally ignored and treated step-motherly since long.
The impact of laying down railway track between Sialkot-Daska would help accelerate the trade and commerce activities, besides supportive in speedy handling of exportable consignments, as distance between Sialkot and Lahore would be reduced, they said.
At present, most of the passengers preferred to travel by luxury coaches or their own transport because of the Lahore-bound train lacked facilities, they said.
The socio-political circles alleged that the railway authorities had always ignored this export-oriented and foreign exchange earner city in the past.
Despite long standing demands for fast railcar service between Sialkot-Rawalpindi, induction of AC bogies with Karachi-bound Allama Iqbal Express and fast train service between Sialkot-Lahore and Sialkot-Faisalabad, the railway authorities did not heed to the genuine demands of the people, they said.
They pointed out that railway tracks between Sialkot-Wazirabad and Sialkot-Narowal were deteriorated and needed immediate attention of the railway authorities.
Meanwhile, the local business community had urged the railway authorities to introduce reduced fright rates for Sialkot-Karachi and ensure delivery of goods within 36 hours from Sialkot to Karachi.
