Taiwan stocks rise; Hon Hai, HTC up

HTC, a major rival of Apple, shot up 4.44 percent. Apple said former CEO Steve Jobs, the company's creative driving force, had died on Wednesday. The main TAIEX index was up 105.46 points at 7,094.61 at the opening bell, recovering from a 0.83 percent decline in prior session.

Hon Hai gained 1.92 percent, boosting electronics shares by 1.68 percent. The Taiwan dollar was flat at T$30.362. Foreign investors were net sellers on Wednesday, bringing their total selling at T$18.89 billion this month.
