He said that rapidly changing climate of the region was a major reason behind the unprecedented rains in Sindh during the monsoon season, which had left the province severely flooded. Three strong weather systems (monsoon low pressure areas) entered the country during August and September which produced widespread heavy rains in Sindh, he pointed out. Arif said that the Met Office after flood 2010 had improved the capability of medium-range forecasting from 3-5 days to 7-10 days with a lead time of 3-4 days i.e. 3-4 days before the occurrence of rainfall and its duration spell. He said that the Office had also predicted all the weather systems before time with a view to scale down damage to the public life and property losses.
