National strategy against corruption need of hour, NAB chairman briefs Balochistan cabinet

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) since its inception has launched legal action against corrupt elements, however, it was direly needed that such a strategy at the national level against corruption and bribery was required through which an effective war could be waged to eliminate this curse at every level.
This strategy would be implemented in collaboration with the political leadership and people from all walks of life.
This was stated at a briefing conducted by the NAB for Balochistan Cabinet at its special session held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Jam Muhammad Yusuf.
NAB Chairman Lieutenant General Muneer Hafeez and NAB Balochistan Director General Major General Shakil Tirmizi attended the session on special invitation.
The provincial cabinet was informed that approval has been sought from President General Pervez Musharraf and the Federal Cabinet for this strategy.
The cabinet was informed that the objective of this plan was to trace out reasons for corruption, preparation of recommendations for ending these reasons and plan for the implementation of recommendations so prepared.
The cabinet was also informed that this briefing was part of awareness campaign and similar briefings have also been planned for federal and other provincial cabinets.
It was said that poverty, increase in population, social disparity, moral degradation, raise in foreign debts, improper health facilities, weaknesses of government functionaries and above all bad name for the country at the international level were owing to impacts of corruption.
Strategy against corruption would help in overcoming corruption leading to raise in foreign investment, raising standard of common man, improvement in social uplift and justice to the people.
In his address on the occasion, the Balochistan chief minister lauded the NAB for preparing national strategy against corruption and hoped that through this formation of a society would be possible, which would be capable of fighting effective battle against corruption and corrupt practices.
He said improving financial and administrative disciplines was the priority of his government for which effective steps were being taken at all levels.
He said this fact could not be denied that if those in power work correctly, good governance could be ensured.
Jam Yusuf said that the people definitely have lot of expectations from a political set-up.
Earlier, the NAB chairman, while apprising objectives and preparations of the national strategy against corruption said that it was aimed at setting up a society free of corruption.
He said we could make Pakistan strong and economically stable by cleansing it from corruption.
He said NAB has prepared a comprehensive national strategy to stop corruption and co-operation for its successful implementation was needed from every person of the society.
Provincial ministers Syed Ehsan Shah, Hafiz Hamdullah, Maulana Abdul Bari, and Agha Faisal put forth suggestions about national strategy and the NAB chairman assured them to look into their proposals.
