The Sindh CM directed the District Relief Committees to expedite measures to speedily drain out rain water from various rain and flood affected areas in Sindh on priority basis.
He said this while chairing a high level meeting of Coordinators to review the rain emergency and relief measures for rain affected people, held at CM House, said a statement.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that in the current situation, Sanghar and Sinjhoro towns be dealt on top priority basis, as there is big quantity of rain water standing since many days and there is no path for its draining out.
The meeting decided to continue relief activities in Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Naukot, Badin, Golarchi and other towns of Badin district.
The Sindh CM said that the Sindh Government has preferred to provide food, shelter, medical facilities and clean drinking water to rain affected people of 13 affected districts on emergent basis, while it is much needed that all departments should work in coordination to help the affectees in this crucial time.
Regarding certain complaints that rotten ration stuff of last floods is being supplied in some districts, the Sindh CM took serious notice of the same and directed that a report to this effect be submitted early.
Sindh Secretary Works and Services and Convener for Coordinators Committee, Arif Ahmed Khan, in his report appreciated the efforts of District Relief and Coordination Committees of the province.
Arif Ahmed Khan said that together with relief and rehabilitation work, the rain affected people are now demanding Pakistan Cards so that they could get financial assistance for rehabilitation and re-construction of the affected houses.
He said that the PDMA is regularly providing relief goods including supplies of NDMA and other agencies.
Arif Khan added that there is apprehension of spread of malaria due to continuous standing of rain water and flourishment of mosquito germs, while there is an acute need to pay attention towards hygienic health of people.
Later, Sindh Secretary Education, Muhammad Siddique Memon who is Coordinator of Relief Activities in district Shaheed Benazirabad, informed that there is still two feet of water standing in the main areas while Sanam Colony and Doctors Colony will be get rid of water soon, and the district has been supplied 65,000 tents with 40- water pumping machines while there is need of more tents.
Besides, there is need of more veterinary staff as there is disease among animals, he added.
He also gave report pertaining to Qazi Ahmed, Daur, and other towns of the district.
Secretary Coal and Energy, Mohammad Younis Dhaga, who is also Coordinator for Khairpur, Naushero Feroz and Ghotki districts informed that there are 22,000 persons registered in camps of Nausheroferoz while 256 tents have been supplied.
He added that there is need of mosquito nets, fumigation, de-watering pumps and excavators.
He said that de- watering pumps be sent to Moro, and there is water at Bhirya, Mehrabpur etc which may be disposed in Rohri Canal. He also gave reports about Ghotki and Khairpur districts.
Managing Director SPRRA Muhammad Ishaq Lahsari, presented reports pertaining to Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar and Umerkot Districts.
He said that there is alarming situation at Mirpurkhas, Pithoro, Sindhiri, Tando Jan Muhammad, Jhuddo and Naukot.
Regarding health services, Lashari said that PPHI outfit is making better efforts for the treatment of rain affected people living in camps.
Secretary Health, Rizwan Ahmed informed the meeting that good quality medicines have been ordered from France, India and Mexico which will reach Karachi on October 2, 6 and 10 respectively, and will be supplied in the affected districts.
The CM Sindh on the occasion observed that there is deplorable performance of Livestock Department and said that more than 100,000 animals are reported to have died in the province.
He directed that the work of assessment of losses be completed early without any favouritism.
He directed the Secretary Irrigation to make arrangnments for draining out rain water from the affected places.
Secretary Food Naseer Jamali presented report of Dadu district and Asif Haider Shah regarding Sanghar district.
Secretary Agriculture Agha Jan Akhtar presented report regarding Badin and Thatta districts and Secretary Finance Naveed Kamran Baloch presented report regarding Jamshoro district.
It was informed that 16 Centers of NADRA are functioning in Badin district and issuing Pakistan Cards, while now the Pakistan cards are being issued in Tando Muhammad Khan district also.
The CM Sindh said that the Agriculture Department should ensure availability and distribution of seed and fertilisers among the affected farmers of less affected areas so as to enable them to cultivate the Crop.
He directed the Director General PDMA to increase ration bags from 15,000 to 25,000 for Sanghar district while the supply of mosquito nets be enhanced.
The meeting was informed that the NDMA will provide 70,000 to 75,000 packs of ration per day and 15000 tents, while PDMA has arranged delivery of 10,000 mosquito nets.
The meeting was attended among others by Sindh Minister for Rehabilitation Haji Muzaffar Shujra, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Enam Memon, Principal Secretary to the President Asif Hayat, Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas, Additional Secretary to the President Abdul Karim Ansari, Senior Member BOR Sindh Shahzar Shamoon, Secretary to C.M Sindh Alamuddin Bullo and Sindh Secretary for Information Syed Safdar Ali Shah.
