DG NAB reviews progress on recovery from electricity defaulters

MULTAN: Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Multan Brig (Retd) Farooq Naser Awan chaired a meeting here Wednesday to review progress on pace of recovery from electricity defaulters of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco).

The DG NAB while addressing participants of the meeting directed to ensure disconnection of electricity connection of all defaulters and default premises, identify and provide details of electricity defaulters and properties owned by them, says an official release.

He asked Mepco officials to rectify wrong and exaggerated bills. He said any Mepco official found involved in malpractice would be taken to task.

The meeting was attended by Director, Additional Director (Staff), Investigation Officers of NAB Multan, besides Superintendent Engineer and Executive Engineers of Mepco.

Earlier, Superintending Engineer Mepco, Akram Bhatti, gave a detailed briefing on efforts being made for recovery of default amounts. He informed that Mepco had recovered Rs 3.169 million from 11 defaulters till date. He added that 193 out of 194 untraceable defaulters had been traced through field surveys.

The DG NAB directed Mepco officers to comeback with tangible progress on the issue in hand within one week. He further stated that NAB Multan will provide full support to Mepco in recovery of default amounts.
