PEMRA CoC recommends Rs 500,000 fine on private channel

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Council of Complaints, Karachi recommended imposing fine of Rs. 500,000 on M/s Galaxy Broadcast (Pvt.) Ltd. for irresponsible and unverified reporting.

The recommendations were given in 31st meeting of the Council, held under the chairmanship of Prof. Inam Bari at PEMRA Regional Office, Karachi, said a press release issued here Wednesday.

The recommendations were made after hearing the complaint of Asim Hussain, filed through his legal counsel Anwar Mansoor Khan, Senior Advocate Supreme Court.

The Council also recommended revocation of Cable TV Licences of M/s Barlas Cable TV Network and M/s N.N. Cable TV Network, Karachi for being non-operational and not revalidating their licenses after expiry.

Hearing complaint against a programme News-Eye, dated March 16, 2016, the Council recommended issuing Advice to M/s Aurora Broadcasting (Pvt.) Ltd. for violating Code of Conduct and failing to install effective time delay mechanism in its live programmes.

Other Council members including Mrs. Hoori Noorani, Farhad Zaidi, Mrs. Anjum Ara Sabahuddin and Ashfaq Ahmed Jumani (Secretary to the Council/Regional General Manager, Sindh) were also present in the meeting.
