PTA endeavouring to curb grey trafficking

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in its ongoing efforts to control grey trafficking has unearthed an illegal gateway exchange in Layyah.

According to details, a successful raid against the grey operator was carried out along with a team of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at Chok Azam, Layyah.

An illegal VOIP exchange comprising two gateways, multiple ports along with two connecting devices, other equipment including switches, around 50 SIMs, laptop, modem and Evo were confiscated.

One person was arrested and was in FIA custody for further investigation.

As per further details, PTA and FIA have conducted more than 65 raids in various cities during last one year.

PTA's latest report on telecom sector has revealed that during the period under review, PTA and FIA jointly raided against illegal exchanges in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Rawalpindi Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Multan, Gujrat, Jhang, Wah Cantt, Kasur, Toba Tek Singh, Chaman, Lower Dir, Bhakkar, Fateh Jhang and Larkana.

The successful raids also resulted in arrest of 57 persons besides confiscation of 250 illegal gateway equipments.
