Soft launch of TEXPO-2016 Int'l exhibition held

KARACHI: Soft launch of TEXPO-2016 international exhibition was held here at the Governor House, which was attended by a large number foreign delegates besides local businessmen, representatives of different trade bodies and sectors.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan was the chief guest and Sri lankan Minister for Trade and Industry and Federal Minister for Commerce Engr. Khurram Dastagir Khan were the guests of honour.

Other prominent figures were Chief Executive Officer, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) S.M. Muneer, TDAP's Secretary Ms. Rabia Javeri Agha, President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Abdul Rauf Alam and President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Younas M. Bashir.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan appreciated the role of TDAP for promoting trade of the country and termed TEXPO-2016 as a big event.

He highlighted the economic potential of Karachi, which is the leading industry city of the country.

Despite shortage of energy and gas, Karachi was contributing a lot to the national economy, he said. He emphasized the need to motivate industrialists to value addition.

Federal Minister for Commerce Engr. Khurram Dastagir Khan said that it was first time that such international textile exhibition TEXPO-2016 was being organised and it had received a big response from within and abroad. 400 delegates from 60 countries had arrived and more were expected.

TEXPO would help strengthen textile industry including exports of textile products. This would help build image of Pakistan especially of Karachi, he said.

He highlighted the policies of the government led by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

He praised TDAP leadership for promoting trade and spoke of future plans of TDAP. He also spoke of the potential of textile sector.

Sri Lankan Minister for Commerce and Industry informed that a new strategy was being formed with the bilateral trade target of dollars one billion. He said that businessmen of both the countries should lead and interact with each other regularly. On the occasion, TDAP's CEO , S.M. Muneer , TDAP's Secretary Ms. Rabia Javeri Agha and FPCCI President Abdul Rauf Alam also spoke.

TEXPO-2016 would be formally inaugurated on Thursday at Expo Centre Karachi by Federal Minister for Commerce Engr. Khurram Dastagir Khan.
