According to details, a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was the target of the attack. The explosion occurred outside a building nearby his residence, located on Street 32, Defence Housing Authority, Phase VIII. SSP Chaudhry Aslam escaped unhurt from the attack.

The high intensity explosion caused an eight foot deep crater at the blast site. Several nearby houses and cars were also damaged in the explosion. The casualties included six security officials, and a school teacher and her teenage son.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and sealed all roads leading to the blast site. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.

SSP Aslam and his family have been moved to a safe location for security purposes.
