Rs1.342bn so far released to execute IT, telecom projects

ISLAMABAD: The government has so far released Rs1.342 billion against different ongoing projects of Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication under Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) this year.

As per data, China has released Rs1.15 billion for establishment of Cross-Border Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) System between China and Pakistan for international connectivity of Voice/Data Traffic for China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The government had earmarked Rs922.804 million which included Rs722.804 million local component and Rs150 million foreign component.

However, the document on Thursday showed a total of Rs1342.549 million have so far been released to IT and Telecom Ministry.

In addition to Rs1.15 billion for fiber optic project, a total of Rs198 million fund was released for projects including Rs13.44 million against Computerization of PM Secretariat (Phase-II) Islamabad project and Rs20 million for Construction of Cross - Border Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) System between China and Pakistan for international connectivity.

Similarly, the amount released for other projects included Rs2.46 million for e-Enablement of FIA, Islamabad against the budgeted Rs6.1 million, Rs3.2 million for Establishment of Coordination Unit at IT & Telecom Division (International Coordination Unit) against the budgeted Rs8 million, Rs10 million for Extension of Islamabad Hospital (Hospital Management Information System) and Networking Facilities to Children Hospital (PIMS).

The government also released amount of Rs45.8 million for GSM Expansion of NAs (All Areas) against estimated Rs118.45 million, Rs24 million for Laying of OFC to connect Remote Location of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) against the budgeted Rs60 million, Rs24 million for Provision of GSM Facilities in Neelum District of AJK (Phase-I) against Rs60 million, Rs36 million for Purchase of Land in Karachi and Lahore for establishment of IT Parks against Rs350 million budgeted,Rs4 million for Strengthening of Server Room at Ministry of IT, Islamabad and Rs12 million for Site Development and Construction of Boundary Wall at Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) Site for Establishment of IT Park at Chak Shahzad, Islamabad.
