In closing trade the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 186.30 points (1.66 percent) at 11,433.03.
The broader S&P 500 rose 20.43 points (1.72 percent) to 1,209.11, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite gained 34.52 points (1.34 percent) to stand at 2,607.07.
