LONDON: Europe's leading stock markets tumbled at the start of trading on Wednesday as oil prices slumped to new 12-year lows and following sharp losses for equities in Asia.

At the open, the Paris CAC 40 and Frankfurt DAX 30 indices of leading shares each shed 2.4 percent compared with Tuesday's close. London's benchmark FTSE 100 lost almost 2.0 percent in value.
