JOHANNESBURG: The retail price of petrol in South Africa will decrease by 0.2 percent from Jan. 6, while wholesale diesel will dip by 7 percent, the energy department said on Thursday.

In a statement, the department said the price of petrol would fall by just 3 cents to 12.37 rand ($0.79) per litre in the commercial hub of Gauteng province, while diesel would cost 10.05 rand.

The government adjusts the price of fuel every month, factoring in global oil prices and the rand exchange rate.
