LONDON: European stock markets steadied at the open on Tuesday, as London reopened in muted trade after the Christmas holiday.

London's benchmark FTSE 100 index dipped almost 0.1 percent to 6,249.1 points compared with the close of its last trading day on Thursday.

Elsewhere, the Paris CAC 40 gained 0.7 percent to 4,648.8 and Frankfurt's DAX 30 rose 0.85 percent to 10,745 points. Both key eurozone indices had already reopened with slight losses on Monday following the festive break.
