The DG PDMA said this in his briefing to a high level meeting regarding rain emergency, relief and rehabilitation works, held at CM House, said a statement issued.
He added that total area of 4.1 million acres is under rain water while crop area under water is 1.77 million acres.
He said that 690,000 persons have become homeless, out of which 130,000 people have been accommodated in relief camps.
Farooqui informed that so far 50,000 tents have been delivered by PDMA in rain affected districts, while the NDMA has sent or committed 10,000 tents and they have further committed to send another one lac tents for Sindh province.
He added that NDMA will provide 200,000 ration bags in shape of daily consignment of 10,000 ration bags per day.
Speaking on the occasion, the Sindh Chief Minister said it is a time of test for the government and the administration as Sindh province is bearing heavy loss to human lives, cattle and crops together with damages to houses, roads, government buildings and other infrastructure due to heavy downpours.
He said there is an acute need of food for the affected and clean drinking water in rain-affected areas.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah announced that the legal heirs of bread-earners, who died during heavy rains, will be paid Rs 200,000 each as compensation while the dependents of non-bread earners who died due to rains will be paid Rs 100,000 each as compensation.
Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani informed the meeting that all TMOs of Taluka Municipal Administration have been directed to fully assist and cooperate with the district governments in various measures to combat the situation of rains in their respective areas.
Various secretaries highlighted the relief activities of their respective departments.
The meeting was attended by Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazhar-ul- Haq, Minister for Information, Sharjeel Enam Memon, Minister for Irrigation Jam Saifullah Dharejo, Minister for Rehabilitation Haji Muzaffar Ali Shujra, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh Sharmilla Farooqui, Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas, Additional Chief Secretary (P&D) Malik Israr, Senior Member BOR/ Relief Commissioner Sindh, Shazir Shamoon, provincial secretaries of Finance, Health, Agriculture, Local Government and Special Secretary to CM Hafezullah Abbasi.
