RAWALPINDI: An Accountability court in Rawalpindi on Thursday acquitted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif their deceased brother Abbas Sharif and late father Mohammad Sharif in the Ittefaq Foundry case.

Accountability Court Judge Suhail Nasir acquitted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other family members in the case and rejected a request by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to reopen the reference.

The judge said that the case against the foundry was based on political revenge and there is no dispute between the Sharif family and National Bank of Pakistan.

The reference was filed in 2001 during the era of former President Pervez Musharraf.
