The benchmark Hang Seng Index added 76.95 points to 20,289.03 on turnover of HK$67.90 billion ($8.71 billion).
Chinese shares closed down 0.26 percent as investors remained cautious about the domestic inflation outlook and the health of the US and European markets, dealers said.
The Shanghai Composite Index ended 6.91 points lower at 2,601.26 on turnover of 72.2 billion yuan ($11.3 billion).
