EU wheat prices climb in corn-led advance
* "The overall firmness we're seeing in Paris is tied in to what's been going on in the corn market," said Jaime Nolan-Miralles, commodity risk manager at FCStone Europe.
* Chicago Board of Trade December corn climbed to a contract high on Monday, supported by last week's US Department of Agriculture report, which cut corn yields and tightened ending stocks.
* Euronext benchmark November milling wheat was up 1.00 euro or 0.5 percent to 199.75 euros a tonne by 1531 GMT.
* Trade was thin with a public holiday Monday in several countries including France, Italy and Spain.
* Harvest progress in northern and central Europe continued to be patchy following recent rains.
* "At present, the main concerns surround quality," Britain's Home-Grown Cereals Authority said in a market note on Monday, adding rain had disrupted harvests in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
* Telvent DTN noted there had been episodes of rain, scattered showers and thunder showers across central and northern Europe over the weekend.
* "In Europe on the wheat side there's concern over the progress of the German harvest. There's a big question mark over quality," Nolan-Miralles said.
* Dealers said worries over a global economic slowdown and uncertainty over the size of US crops was contributing to choppy trading in recent sessions.
* "It's very much a weather market as far as the States are concerned, then there's the outside economic situation, plus we're waiting for the harvest yields here (in Europe), so it's going to be volatile," a London-based broker said.
* Prices were supported by Saudi Arabia buying 660,000 tonnes of wheat from Australia, the EU, Canada and the United States for shipment between November 2011 and February 2012.
* In the U.K. dealers said rains in Scotland and northern England meant it was difficult to know what the overall quality of the crop would be.
* "We've got to have the crops in the barn to see what the quality is," the London-based broker said.
* Feed wheat futures in London also edged higher, in line with gains in Paris and Chicago.
* London's November feed wheat traded up 1.25 pounds or 0.8 percent at 164.50 pounds a tonne.
