54 shopkeepers fined, four arrested

KARACHI: The divisional and district administrations of Karachi challaned 54 shopkeepers and imposed fines of Rs 103,200 for overcharging while 4 shopkeepers were arrested for continuous profiteering.

During crackdown 28 milk sellers, two vegetables sellers, two fruits sellers, 10 grocers and 12 chicken sellers were fined, said a handout issued here on Wednesday.

The action against profiteers was taken in different areas of the metropolis including Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Landhi, Shah Faisal, Saddar, Aram Bagh, Model Colony and others.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said that the crackdown against profiteers will continue till the sale of essential items is ensured in accordance with official rates.
