Six killed as roof collapses

The death toll in Mirpurkhas District in reain-related incident during the past 48 hours reached 10. In street No 1 of Bhansinghabad area of Mirpurkhas city, Muhammad Akram, 60 his wife Masmat Khaanma, their offsprings, Waseem, 24, Shaheen, 26, Salman, 3 and Alisha 2 died on the spot when the big part of the roof of their home collapsed when they were asleep. Eight others of same family identified as Aslam, Shereen, Nosheen, Hasnain, Noreen, Farzanan and a baby were seriously injured in the incident.

The dead bodies were handed over to the heirs after completing the necessary formalities at Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas.

The injured were shifted for medical assistance to the Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas. District Administrator Mirpurkhas, Ghulam Hussain Memon, along with EDO Health Dr Shafqat Hussain Dahri reached the spot and supervised the rescue work.

DCO announced Rs. 100,000 each for the deceased as compensation to the heirs of victim family and directed the Health officials to provide complete treatment to injured persons.

Meanwhile, the heavy rain fall which continued in Mirpurkhas and Umerkot district for the past 48 hours has inundated the main roads, streets of cities and towns of Mirpurkhas district and Umerkot district. Rain water also entered in many localities in Mirpurkhas and a number of houses were damaged in Mirpurkhas, Taluka Hussain Bux mari, Taluka Jhuddo and Naokot. Most of the people were reportedly killed in the incidents pertaining to collapsing of roofs.

The heavy rains also damaged the crops and a number of villagers moved to safer areas. DCO Mirpurkhas Ghulam Hussain Memom also announced the closure of Government schools in the district for two days in view of heavy rains.
