WAPDA, China's 3 Gorges ink MoUs on cooperation in water conservation, training programmes

ISLAMABAD: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and China's Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) signed two Memoranda of Understanding on private partnership in development of hydropower and water conservation, and cooperation in training and education.

Chairman WAPDA, Zafar Mahmood and Chairman of Board of Directors of CTG, Lu Chun inked the documents, which was witnessed by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in a ceremony held here at the PM House.

The MoU on hydropower and water conservation is meant to encourage private investment in infrastructure development of ongoing and future energy projects.

The objective of the MoU on training is to establish a framework to assist the parties in collaboration through open programmes in training and education on the basis of reciprocity and mutual and public benefits.

Under the MoU, all educational activities will be focused on six fields including Chinese Language Immersion Program, Vocational and Technical Education, Schools, Training, Exchange and Technology Transfer.

The ceremony was attended by Minister for Water and Power Khwaja Asif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi.

The Chinese side included Lin Chuxue, Vice President CTG; Lu Guojun, Assistant President CTG/President of CWE Investment Corporation; Wang Shaofeng, Executive Vice President of CWE Investment Corporation/Chairman of the board of directors of CTG China International Water and Electric Corporation; Ms. Jin Zheping, Director of CWE Investment Corporation; and Fiaz Ahmad Chairman of the Trans Tech Group of Companies.
