56 shopkeepers challaned, two sent to jail

KARACHI: Karachi divisional and district administration challaned 56 shopkeepers and fine of Rs.109,500 were imposed for overcharging and violating officially approved price list of essential commodities while two were sent to jail for continuous profiteering, said Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui.

According to a statement issued here on Tuesday, the on-going crackdown against profiteering and adulteration was carried out in Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Murad Memon, Model Colony, Shah Faisal, Saddar, Aram Bagh, Civil Line, Garden, Harbor, Jamshaid Qwarter, Gulzar Hijri, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Landhi, South, Central, East, West, Malir and Korangi.

The Commissioner added that during the crackdown 22 milk sellers, two fruit vendors, 16 vegetable merchants, 15 essential items sellers and a chicken seller were challaned.

The drive will continue against profiteers, hoarders and those who are involved in adulteration till they do not abide by the officially approved price list.
