30 shopkeepers fined, four sent to jail for profiteering

KARACHI: The divisional and district administration Karachi has challaned 30 shopkeepers and fines of Rs. 75,000/- were imposed while four shopkeepers were sent to jail for profiteering.

According to a statement issued here on Thursday, during crackdown, the administration fined 11 milk sellers, two vegetables sellers, three food items grocers, two fruits sellers and 12 chicken sellers.

The action against profiteers were taken in the areas including Liaquat Abad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Murad Memon Goth, Model Colony, Shah Faisal, Saddar, Aram Bagh, Civil Line, Garden, Jamshed Quarters, Gulzar Hijri, Orangi Town, Baldia Town and other areas.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the operation against profiteers will continue till the sale of essential items is not ensured according to officially approved price list.
