Karachi administration fines 70 retailers of Rs1,69,000

KARACHI: The Karachi administration has fined 70 retailers of Rs 1,69,000 for overcharging consumers of varied edible items in the city, said a spokesman of Commissioner Karachi on Wednesday.

The spokesman sharing details with the media, on daily basis, about the ongoing campaign against profiteers, hoarders and adulterators in the metropolis said officials no junior than the ranks of assistant commissioner and magistrates are involved in the daily campaign.

During past 24 hours, they said 29 milk sellers, one meat seller, nine green grocers, 18 grocers, one flour miller, four fruit sellers and eight chicken sellers belonging to different parts of Karachi were challaned for violating officially approved price lists.

It was maintained that hoarding and adulteration of food items have been largely controlled while concerted efforts are underway to counter profiteering and protect the rights of unassuming consumers.
